Recreational programming is community based program that is primarily focused on the enjoyment and development of soccer players without the emphasis on travel or high-levels of competition. Recreational soccer is about players having fun and playing with friends within their community while developing life skills by playing on a team and, hopefully, finding a life-long love for the game.
Most, not all, of the member clubs in the SOCAL league have recreational programs for players in their areas and most are very involved with the curriculum and training of the players for those recreational players that look to move into competitive programming.
A Recreational League mean that the league is an "intraclub" league with no tryouts, invitations, recruiting, or the creation of teams based on talent or ability.
This is normally where players start their soccer journey and many find this level of play enjoyable for the duration of their soccer careers while many others continue on into the competitive level of play and beyond.
